Im a teacher from Jamaica W.I. who migrated to Berlin 3 years ago. Where Im currently doing a Masters in Childhood Studies and Children's Rights. Within the field of Children’s Rights there is a discourse of representing children from Africa and children with African origins as inactive objects. It is my opinion that this discourse continues to prevail because it maintains the status quo and fails to question deep rooted ideologies that cause racism, discrimination and segregation. Being of African descent I am committed to counter such discourses by unearthing the broader context of power, social injustices, international trade agreements etc. and to clearly “spell-out” how the adversities of children connect to these broader issues.
