Elizabeth Saewyc

A Professor of Nursing and Adolescent Medicine at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Dr. Saewyc heads the interdisciplinary Stigma and Resilience Among Vulnerable Youth Centre. She is a Fellow in the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. Her research and clinical practice primarily focus on how stigma, violence, and trauma influence young people’s health, coping, and behaviour, and what protective factors in relationships and environments can buffer this trauma. She has worked for 20 years with runaway and street-involved youth, sexually abused/exploited teens, LGBTQ youth, and indigenous youth in multiple countries.
